Hi, meet Dee Zire. She built her first home bridge and took pictures
during each step of the way. Follow along and see how easy it was.
After she chose the perfect plot of land she got out her building tools
and plotted her foundation ...

Using the Foundation tool, she plotted a three square wide by however long she wanted the bridge to be area.

Once again using the Foundation tool, Hold down CTRL and drag to remove the middle (the bridge) from the foundation as shown below leaving the ends for the top of the stairs to connect.
CTRL +

Using the Floor tool, cover the bridge. You can go to the edge and cover where the top of the stairs will go. I left them them uncovered here for clearity.

Once again using the Foundation tool and holding down CTRL, remove the outside edges to reveal a empty cavity under the floor.

TIPS: Bridges may be as wide as you want. This tutorial assumes a one square wide bridge. Also, you do not have to create the bridge as wide as I did in the example and then trim it down. You can make the bridge one square wide by however long you want it. Add the floor, then remove all the foundation execpt the outer most squares where the stairs will go. You will achieve the same results as the above picture. I choose the first method to try and give you a better idea of what takes place.
At this time you basically have your bridge. You can finish the floor if you haven't already. Paint the outside of the foundation using any of the wall textures, and add the stairs and railing (using the Fence tool)

The Terrain tool becomes one of your best friends in almost every building sittuation. It takes practice to get good with it and in a lot of cases using the top down view helps a lot. Also when working on different levels, don't forget to go up and down levels to make your job easier.

Use the Water tool (the drop of water for those that don't catch on too easy) and start to draw in your water (of course only if you choose to span over water)
As you can see, this makes a nice shallow stream crossing.
Use the Digging tool, represented by the horizontal line with the up and down arrows and choose the Lowering Tool, both highlighted in green below, to dig deep ravines and canyons (or anything else you want dug deeper)

The go back and use the Water Tool to add the water (again only if you choose to add water for those that canntot think on their own) at the bottom of the ravine.
And creating a real need for the bridge.
At this point you may decorate to your hearts desire creating a simple little park pond.
Or getting a little more into it and creating an interesting walking garden.
